This week we have started buddy reading with our buddy class- room9!
We read to our buddies and they helped us read tricky words.
We could practice our reading at home by reading with our older siblings or parents!
We are Year 2 learners at Ruapotaka School in Room 5 and our teacher is Miss Min! Look around our blog to see what we did at school!

What floats and what sinks?
Today's big question was 'what floats and what sinks?'
We predicted that toy cow, scissors, block, and the spoon will sink in the water
and we predicted that counter, stick, and a tennis ball will float.
Through this experiment, we found out that scissors and spoon sink in the water.
And toy cow, stick, block, counter, and tennis ball floats on the water.
Today we learnt that these objects float because they are light or have air in them. But spoons and scissors don't!
There is air in our body too and this is why we can be awesome swimmers!

Autumn -writing
It finally feels like Autumn and we can find lots of autumn leaves falling from the trees. Thanks to Mrs. Pederson, we didn't have to walk outside to look for some autumn leaves in the rain.
We saw a variety of leaves and discussed about what it looks like, what it feel like, and what it sounds like.

Here are some of our stories about Autumn!

ANZAC ceremony
For the past 2 weeks, Ruapotaka School students have been learning about ANZAC.
Today we gathered together and participated in our school ANZAC ceremony to remember the soldiers and all the people who fought in the war.
On behalf of room3, Paea and Emeline wrote a letter to the soldiers to thank them and shared it with the rest of the school.
"Dear soldiers,
Thank you for fighting for our country. We will remember you.
From room 3"
We can go to Panmure or Auckland Museum in Domain to attend ANZAC service on April 25th.
Lest we forget.

Science Experiment
This week we did a very exciting science experiment. The aim of this experiment was to see what happens when we boil the coke. Before we started the experiment, we made predictions. We predicted that it might change colours, make lots of bubbles, it might blow up, pop like a popcorn, or it might disappear.
First, we need coke, pot, spoon, and a burner to do this experiment.
Then, we poured in a cup of coke into the pot and turned on the burner.

It started to make lots of bubbles!
Miss Min stirred the coke so that nothing sticks on the pot.
And....
Look! All the liquid that is in coke dissolved and only the sugar was left. Coke became thick and sticky. When it cooled down, it became hard like a lolly! There are lots of sugar in coke so lets drink water and milk instead!
