Buddy Reading with Room10

This year's buddy reading was different!
We went to Room 10 and our buddies shared and read their own personal learning blogs.

We were fascinated to see all the learning they were doing in class and to visit our own class blog.
We can't wait to become a senior and use our own chromebooks to help our learning.

Thank you Room 10 for sharing your awesome blogs. It was so much fun!

Designing a moko

Moko is a traditional Maori face tattoo. We learnt that males can have a moko on their whole face but females are to only have it on their chin.

We began to look at the various designs of moko in our favourite Maori myths and legends books to get an idea before designing our own.
We recognised that it was mostly the koru pattern.

Then sketched our ideas.

Then we copied our designs onto our own faces!

What do you think of our moko?

Quick fact !
Did you know that the left side of the moko represents our father and the right side represents our mother?

Maui and the Sun

Today Miss Min read us a well-known Maori tale called
Maui and the Sun.

This story is about how Maui and his brothers worked together so that we can have light during the day and night.
Maui and the brothers tied the sun and the moon together. Now we have sunlight during the day and moonlight during the night.

We wanted to share this story with others so together, we made a mosaic of the sun and the moon.

Look at us pulling the moon to tie it with the sun!

Hip Hop

Today was our first day of learning HIP HOP dance by a professional dancer, Jess.

It is important that we listen to the music carefully so we can keep to the beat!
