After reading the fairytale story The Three Billy Goats Gruff, we used match sticks to retell the story.

Can you see the characters and the bridge?

Tongan Language Week

Mālō e lelei !

For Tongan language week, the seniors visited our classroom to show us the different types of traditional clothing.

We learnt the names of the costumes; ta'ovala, kiekie, kava.
Boys wear different ta'ovala to girls.

Also, the costumes were hand-made. They were made with coconuts, bark, hair, and more.

Welcome to our two special visitors from Taiwan, Hunter and Kevin!

The two boys will be staying at our school for the next 2 weeks and they are here to experience what New Zealand schools are like and how different it is compared to their home country schools.

They stayed in our classroom in the morning and completed handwriting and writing tasks with us.

I hope you enjoyed your time in our classroom!

The Three Little Pigs

This week we studied about the story, Three Little Pigs.

Horace, Borris, and Percy were sent out by their mother pig to build their own houses with a warning about the big bad wolf.
Horace and Borris wanted to quickly play so they built their houses with straws and sticks as this did not take them long to build.
On the other hand, Percy built a strong, safe house made of bricks.

We learnt that it takes a lot of time and effort to produce high quality work.

Look at our houses that we made out of straws, sticks, and bricks!

Get, set, go!

Kiwisport is back with two coaches teaching us different skills.

Today we focused on balancing. We learnt that we use our balancing everyday, nearly every moment. Such as, sitting on our bottoms and not falling over, standing on one foot.

We were given a special challenge to balance as we are walking with an animal bag on top of our heads! We tried not to use our hands. It was super tricky! How much can you walk with an object on your head, without it falling down?

This week we studied about the story, Red Riding Hood.
Did you know that the little girl is called Red Riding Hood because she likes to wear her red cloak with a hood?

Look at us with our red hoods on!

Our school's first Powhiri

Today our school gathered together to end our term with a powhiri.

We showed our respect for the Maori culture by staying silent and paying attention to the speeches made by the teachers and students. We also took part in our school karakia and waiata.

Although we were unable to visit the marae, it was an amazing experience as we have only heard about it whilst studying Maori culture this term.
